Oilfield water-treatment reference for pam for low-flow oilfield dosing: pump turndown before purchase

An oilfield PAM grade can pass a jar test yet remain difficult to dose at minimum plant flow. If the required solution feed falls below the pump's stable operating range, operators may alternate between no treatment and short periods of overfeed. Product procurement should therefore check the dosing system at low load as well as at design throughput.

Convert the accepted dose to a solution flow

Use the selected commercial-product dose, water flow and preparation concentration on consistent units. State whether the solution concentration is mass per volume or mass fraction. Do not calculate a pump setting from active-polymer dose while treating commercial product as fully active. Confirm any density required for conversions rather than assuming that a concentrated liquid behaves exactly like water.

Compare the resulting feed rate with the pump's verified minimum stable output and control method. A nominal range in a brochure is not the same as measured delivery with the actual viscous solution. Check pulsation, backpressure and the injection arrangement as part of the equipment review.

Evaluate dilution without creating a new problem

Additional dilution may bring the required volume into a workable range, but it increases preparation demand and can change solution storage time. Check tank capacity, water supply and the supplier's preparation guidance. An extremely dilute batch that remains unused for too long is not necessarily a satisfactory solution to poor pump control.

Ask Xinqi Polymer about preparation limits for the proposed grade. Reference nonionic PAM options only when relevant to the tested chemistry; a change of ion type should not be used as a shortcut around an equipment constraint.

Test transitions and intermittent running

Include normal start-up, low-flow operation and controlled shutdown in the trial plan. Verify how the dosing command responds to changes in water flow and whether stagnant solution remains in the line. Follow the equipment and chemical procedures for flushing rather than improvising cleaning agents. Record the time between a control change and its effect at the separation outlet.

Make the purchase conditional on controllability

Document the workable solution concentration and flow range alongside water-quality results. Identify whether a smaller pump, revised control or added dilution is required before routine supply. Include those costs and commissioning responsibilities in the comparison. The accepted product should deliver a usable operating window across the plant's actual load range, not only produce a successful result when every system happens to run near full capacity.

Technical checks before the order

Use the existing Polymer Feed Skid Troubleshooting for Remote Permian Sites guidance to assemble the operating data for this purchase. Include the accepted trial conditions and unresolved questions in your product enquiry, so the proposed supply can be reviewed against the actual facility requirements.
